What is wood renewal?

Caring for your wood is much like caring for your garden, you consider the seasons. Not only are you aiming at the aestetics but also the longevity. Renewed wood is more than shine, it is protection. Each persons use of the wood varies, so you must assess your reality based on traffic (pets and humans), sun and moisture and your house rules (shoes or no shoes).

Below you will see pictures that reflect the dry and damaged wood next to the repaired and renourished wood freshly renewed. Depending on your traffic, you should consider renewal every 2 to 3 years.

Where do your products come from?

Our products are sourced from the company who regulates our Franchise. These products have been developed and independently tested to work together. Whether our repair products, color (dye's and pigments) or most importantly our finishes, we have the confidence that they have been made to work together and tested to do so. Who is NHance?

What's the difference between wood renewal and screening?

Somebody told me I should just "screen". What does that mean?

Screening is half-way to sanding. The same equipment, the same procedure, just less of it. A screener sands off the finish on your floor, but does not sand off the top layer of wood. Traditionally, this has been a type of stop-gap solution for people who can't afford sanding. Our process achieves all that screening does, without the dust and in a much shorter time.

We don't take a layer of wood off your floors in order to restore your shine and protection. Instead, we leave the wood where it was meant to be and protect it with multiple layers of N-Hance finish.

We recommend sanding, not screening, to those customers who have not preserved their wood and need to start over.

Can I trust your products to last as long as good old varnish?

Actually, we expect more from our products than we would ever expect of "good old varnish". Harris Research Inc has a full-time lab at work on every product developed. Modern water-based polyurethane is fully competitive with petroleum-based varnish.

Since your products are water-based, how do you deal with "grain-raise"?

Grain raise and other problems emerge when taking off a layer of finish, regardless of whether the refinisher will be using a water-based or a petroleum-based finish to reseal the wood.

We burnish to knock down grain raise both before our first coat and between coats. Because our dry-times are faster than petroleum-based varnishes, we can apply more coats in a day than traditional refinishers, thereby assuring a smooth final coat.

How come my contractor has never heard of you?

We are an emerging trend in the industry. Our niche did not exist five years ago. Please see our referrals page.

How should I prepare for the N-Hance process?

Just move your furniture off of your floors. You don't have to cover anything since we don't sand. You don't have to leave, either. We take care not to be annoying.

We don't come in and take over your home. We don't play music, we speak as softly as possible, we stage our equipment in a small area which we clear with you before we begin. Many of our clients continue to work in their home office (unless that's the floor we're doing, of course) while we are there, and have not been disturbed in the slightest.

Our 1923 built-in buffet in our diningroom could be a poster child for NHance!
It had many years of build-up on it. I was a bit nervous as it appeared to have a faux wood grain painted on it. The NHance process has made it look as I imagine it did in 1923. The wood is clean and brightened, gunk gone and faux wood grain completely intact. I literally couldn't be happier with the outcome.

I wanted to enhance the look of the beautiful wood doors in the hallway of my 3-unit apartment building in San Francisco. One of the doors was put in after the others and was a different color. I was a bit apprehensive before the work--the professionals at Nhance had been very clear that the goal of their process was an 80% improvement, and that flaws would be easy to find if I wanted to look for them. Far from "selling" me on their product, they carefully and patiently helped me to understand just what they could do, and what they could not. I am very satisfied with the results. They lifted a decade of grime and discoloration off my hardwood floors in just one day, with little noise and virtually no smells at all. The floor looks at least 80% better, and although there are some spots that are less than perfect, the overall effect is exceptionally good. In my upstairs hallway, for instance, the floor looks so great that I'm reluctant to cover it up with an area rug, a result I certainly did not anticipate. Even the troublesome places are greatly improved. The workers were prompt, quiet and considerate. They arrived exactly on time and finished just when they said they would. "Hi Mommas, We just had our hardwood floors re-done by NHance and they look so great! I heard about this company on the GGMG list serve a few months back so I wanted to say that we tried it and are very happy with the results.With an active toddler and a very big dog our floors were in dire need of help. We had a few places that were down to bare wood, a couple of nasty scratches and some patched areas where the stain didn't match but now the floor looks terrific. We considered going the whole sanding, staining route but after getting several quotes and being told we would have to be out of the house anywhere from 4 to 7 days we decided to try NHance. Thier process is one step removed from a total sanding and refinishing so it only took one day - they do some kind of wet scrub abrasive (no dust!) and then coat the floor with finish. We were allowed back on the floors (in socks) that night and the price was significantly lower than any other quote. I want to say thanks to the mom who first posted about this service! I love GGMG! Who’s to say that history cannot be preserved! Our challenge...350 square feet of beautiful wood that has sat unfinished and untouched for over 10 years. The floors were in structurally solid shape but covered in layers of dirt, oils and whatever else walks in on the soles of shoes and falls off the dinner table.

We spread the job out over 2 days and invited some 15 different friends...amongst them property managers, realtors and others interested in seeing first hand a system that promises no dust, no odor, no mess in less than 24 hours! As a rental unit the owner requested the matte finish for the sake of the higher traffic.

Next Day Move In

Yikes! The contractor is in a pinch. His commitment is for Sunday October 30th, 2005. The job is not complete but he must deliver the property for move in. The floors are a wreck. Normally he would pay a screener to come in and work over a 2 or 3 day period since the property is already a mess. Dust is not an issue, but today he needs fast! While many of these floors are beyond the scope of our niche we took a shot at it. With our wet abrasive scrub and NO SANDING, we put our product and process to the test. After pulling close to 100 carpet nails and staples, filling 100s of holes and cracks and working on some minor repairs we delivered the floor the next morning for move in.

These cabinets are vintage! They have shared well thousands of wonderful days with their owners family and friends. Recently the owner heard of the NHance process. We came to clean and put a new coat on these cabinets. All within a day. In this case repairs were minimal, but dis-coloration was significant. We color matched the spots that were warn and marked by dirt and grease. Best yet...we renewed these cabinets for less than 8% of the quoted replacement cost.

Cleaning Cycle - After staging equipment, taping perimeter our team begins the abrasive scrub of the floors with our patented NHance Deep Release Cleaner.

Burnish and Color Enhance - After the cleaning cycle we color enhance where needed and burnish (knocking down grain raise) in preparation for the finish coats.

Finish Pulls - After decontaminating the floors with a dust extracting vacuum and micro fiber pulls, we begin to apply multiple coats of our high build finish. In this particular case we pulled 1 coat as sealer and 3 more coats to guarantee consistent sheen and protection to the floors.

Nhance examined the chancel floor and steps in our church Sanctuary. Cabinets in Diamond Heights

Recently we serviced a sweet couple in the Diamond Heights area. After carefully presenting our process and evaluating their needs we booked an appointment. The Lyon's host a bed and breakfast in their home, so the kitchen is heavily used for meal preparation. They were after fast and clean, while wanting to renew the shine, luster and protection to their beautiful wood.
