How do you do this without dust? Are you finishes durable? How do you avoid grain raise? Can you repair

Who is NHance?
When should I schedule maintenance on my wood?
What products do you use?
What's the difference between wood renewal and screening?

Somebody told me I should just "screen". What does that mean?

Screening is half-way to sanding. The same equipment, the same procedure, just less of it. A screener sands off the finish on your floor, but does not sand off the top layer of wood. Traditionally, this has been a type of stop-gap solution for people who can't afford sanding. Our process achieves all that screening does, without the dust and in a much shorter time.

We don't take a layer of wood off your floors in order to restore your shine and protection. Instead, we leave the wood where it was meant to be and protect it with multiple layers of N-Hance finish.

We recommend sanding, not screening, to those customers who have not preserved their wood and need to start over.

Can I trust your products to last as long as good old varnish?

Actually, we expect more from our products than we would ever expect of "good old varnish". Harris Research Inc has a full-time lab at work on every product developed. Modern water-based polyurethane is fully competitive with petroleum-based varnish.

Since your products are water-based, how do you deal with "grain-raise"?

Grain raise and other problems emerge when taking off a layer of finish, regardless of whether the refinisher will be using a water-based or a petroleum-based finish to reseal the wood.

We burnish to knock down grain raise both before our first coat and between coats. Because our dry-times are faster than petroleum-based varnishes, we can apply more coats in a day than traditional refinishers, thereby assuring a smooth final coat.

How come my contractor has never heard of you?

We are an emerging trend in the industry. Our niche did not exist five years ago. Please see our referrals page.

How should I prepare for the N-Hance process?

Just move your furniture off of your floors. You don't have to cover anything since we don't sand. You don't have to leave, either. We take care not to be annoying.

We don't come in and take over your home. We don't play music, we speak as softly as possible, we stage our equipment in a small area which we clear with you before we begin. Many of our clients continue to work in their home office (unless that's the floor we're doing, of course) while we are there, and have not been disturbed in the slightest.

about us

262 Richland Ave
San Francisco, CA 94110
415 294 7795
email us - Click Here

N-Hance is a division of Harris Research Inc. We are a locally owned and operated dealer of N-Hance.

Harris Research formed N-Hance to address a long-standing dilemma for home and business owners with a significant investment in wood floors, cabinets and trim: what do you do when it stops looking beautiful? How does one preserve this investment?

The traditional solution is to do NOTHING. Your wood reaches the place where it looks terrible and your solution is to move out of the home or business for three to seven days while sanders and refinishers grind off the original finish and top layer of wood before refinishing with a petroleum-based varnish. What a mess! How toxic! Worse yet, the sander is taking a layer of wood off and leaving it as a mess for you to clean up!

For those who have sanded, moving back in, one appreciates the beauty of their almost-as-good-as-new floors, cabinets and trim, while trying to ignore the fact that wood-dust has penetrated every nook and cranny, and there's a lingering petroleum odor giving them a headache for the next two weeks.

Such was life. Until Harris Research decided to do something about it.

Years of research into water-based polyurethane led to the perfecting of a suite of products which offer the home and business owner a new way to regain the original beauty of their wood.

N-Hance was born. Why NHance? We can help you restore the beauty of your wood while protecting the wood long before damage occurs. Beauty and protection all in one shot! Sanding is now a thing of the past.

2006 Christmas Party

http://flickr.com/photos/21839067@N00/sets/72157594425912670/

Renewing wood in San Francisco

<img style="WIDTH: 292px; I was a bit nervous as it appeared to have a faux wood grain painted on it. The NHance process has made it look as I imagine it did in 1923. The wood is clean and brightened, gunk gone and faux wood grain completely intact. I literally couldn't be happier with the outcome.

NHance also brightened and sealed our kitchen cabinets and floor. The NHance team was very timely, courteous and straighforward about the results we could expect. Basically, there was no inconvenience for our family during the NHance process.

Ces Cecchin - Floors

We were extremely happy with the work that David, Kirk and their crews did to rejuvenate and protect our hardwood floors. As promised, they started on the agreed date, refinished our whole house (about 2,000 square feet) and were done that afternoon. Our floors look fantastic, and are protected from our pets, our children and normal wear and tear. On time, on budget, superior quality and great customer service. You can’t ask for more!

Cesare Cecchin
Managing Partner
Blue Meadow Properties
Cesare@BlueMeadowProperties.com

Larry Gardner, general contractor, LITTLEWORKSsm…the handyman service

It has been my pleasure to work with the Nhance people on a recent residential renovation project in Noe Valley. Worn and discolored hardwood floors were examined and evaluated by Nhance. A truthful assessment of the condition of the floors and expectations of the refinishing process were provided by the refinishers. Limitations were clearly explained. The finished product met or exceeded expectations and was delivered on time and at budget.

Arno & Cornelia Ruben

I want to thank you again for NHancing our kitchen cabinets. You have truly delivered what you promised, which is very rare, but we're pleased to be able to find contractors that we can recommend with a clear conscience. Thanks again for a job well done, and all the best to you and your crew, we wish you abundant success. Best regards,

From a Lower Pacific Heights resident

"We hadn't done anything to our floors in 15 years. They were a mess! We have had them in for a month now and see no deterioration in the quality of the restoration. We will definitely use the service again. Thanks for an excellent job!

John G. Bors, M.D. ("Jack")

Just a quick note to say that the floors look great...your crew was considerate and helpful. Thanks much.

Marcia Lantow - Owners Wife (our toughest customer!)

Hello NHancers! I love my floors! They are so shiny and clean. I can actually see myself everywhere I look! (I think that's good?) :) It was great to see ugly black spots disappear . I think the no odor, no dust thing totally rocks and I am amazed at how we could walk around on the new floors the same day! I appreciate all your hard work!

A Client from Alamo who sent our San Francisco office a testimonial...

Hey Ken!! Use my testimonial for your customers. I can't tell you how pleased we were with your service (o k it was our home out of state, not here in Calif.)

The condo we owned for 15 years is 40 plus years old; the kitchen was original, our kids all lived in it while going to college. We got ready to sell it. The kitchen cabinets and down stairs vanity looked pretty beat up and worn. New kitchen for this was about 13K, not including bathroom vanity. I didn't want to spend money for new kitchen, was a little wary about having N Hance come in to do the job, but I thought, anything will look better than it is now.

WOW!!!!! Was I ever surprised!!! The cabinets were all wood, and did they ever turn out great!!! My kids and neighbors could not believe how wonderful it looked. It wasn't just so so. It was a stunning transformation. We put on new knobs, and I got top dollar for our home. What a transformation!!! And the best part, the job was only about $1500. Can't remember exactly, but a huge savings over a new kitchen!!!

Cheryl Alamo, California

Esperanza and Kamala Kathirgamu,

My daughter and I are both very pleased with the job the guys did with our floors. We really respect the fact that you guys use environmentally friendly products and that's why we chose your company over others. I liked the fact that there were no smells or toxins in the house after the project. Its important that we fight pollution as best we can by promoting such products that do no harm to the environment. The gentlemen workiing with us were very friendly and gave us good suggestions about the maintenance of the floors. Overall you have made two customers very happy and satisfied with the work that you have done and we'd like to thank you for all your help.

Elia R. - Doors and Trim

I wanted to enhance the look of the beautiful wood doors in the hallway of my 3-unit apartment building in San Francisco. One of the doors was put in after the others and was a different color. There were paint spatters all over the doors and layers of wax that people had used on the doors over the 56 years of the building’s existence. There is also an exquisite wooden handrail, custom-made for the curving staircase. Years of hands holding it as people went up and down took their toll. For all of the years that I have lived here I have wanted the handrail refinished and preserved. Without sanding and refinishing, NHance took all that stuff off and made the doors shine beautifully; they even made the doors match! The handrail looks as it may have looked when it was new. I am pleased with how lovely it is to enter my building and see the beautiful wood. Ken and David are the best! They are trustworthy, hard-working, and courteous – they are old-fashioned good men, with a wonderful product.

A Anderson - Wood Trim (Portrero Hill)

"I had NHance treat the woodwork around my sunroom windows that had been damaged by moisture and sun. They did a terrific job. The wood now has a rich consistent color to it and is protected from future damage. They were courteous, on time and easy to work with. I would recommend them to anybody."

Dena Anderson - Cabinets and Floors

I recently had NHance refinish my oak wood cabinets. The cabinets were dull and dirty with the beginnings of water damage. When the wonderful folks at NHance were finished, my cabinets were clean and vibrant. The work was done quickly and professionally with very little disruption to my busy schedule. Not only do my cabinets look beautiful, but they are protected and will last for years to come. I also had the wood floor in my breakfast room refinished. It had lots of damage, but NHance brought it back to life. I an thrilled with the results and highly recommend NHance.

Kurt and Alex Nangle - Floors (Noe Valley)

Wow! I'm impressed. My wife and I have an old Victorian. We wanted to put some sparkle back into the heavily worn wood floors, but we didn't want to lose any of the character these floors have acquired over the years. The only solution the contractors were offering us was a new floor, followed by an extremely expensive, and lengthy, designer process to "age" the wood. No thanks. Then Ken and Dave showed up in their NHance van. Now our floors have all their old character plus an additional warmth we didn't even know was there! And all this for a fraction of the cost and in a fraction of the time it would have taken with a traditional solution. Thanks guys!

Roy King - Mothers Cabinets

Dear David and all the Staff at NHance, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for the beautiful work you did on my Mother's kitchen cabinets. Everything from the initial phone call my Mother made, to the estimate given in her home, and ultimately to the job itself was top notch. Her cabinets look absolutely beautiful. No one would ever think they could look as great as they do without sanding and refinishing. It's always so impressive to work with a company that takes the extra time and energy to make sure everything is done well. Thank you so much for the excellent job done. You will always be highlyrecommended and regarded by us.

John B. / Property Manager - Floors (Bernal Heights)

"The floors look awesome! Initially I was skeptical about the restoration process, since it does not involve sanding, which at the time I thought was my only option. The NHANCE method, is clean, quick, and above all, effective. A week prior to the restoration process I had the opportunity to inspect my floors, and I was able to see how years of wear and tear had damaged my floors. I was astonished to see water stains disappear, sun damaged planks replenished with color, and black stained areas, alive again with rich color. The process has retained the beauty of the wood, and gives the floors the protective coating it needs to withstand future wear and tear."

Shaun Greenleaf - Floors

"I recently had my floors refurbished by Nhance. I was a bit apprehensive before the work--the professionals at Nhance had been very clear that the goal of their process was an 80% improvement, and that flaws would be easy to find if I wanted to look for them. Far from "selling" me on their product, they carefully and patiently helped me to understand just what they could do, and what they could not. I am very satisfied with the results. They lifted a decade of grime and discoloration off my hardwood floors in just one day, with little noise and virtually no smells at all. The floor looks at least 80% better, and although there are some spots that are less than perfect, the overall effect is exceptionally good. In my upstairs hallway, for instance, the floor looks so great that I'm reluctant to cover it up with an area rug, a result I certainly did not anticipate. Even the troublesome places are greatly improved. The workers were prompt, quiet and considerate. They arrived exactly on time and finished just when they said they would. They even showed me, step-by-step, what they were doing throughout their work, since I was at home while they did it (something no contractor could ever regard as an ideal situation). They were friendly, polite, and relaxed, and I was able to work all day in my office while they restored my floors. I would recommend the Nhance process, and these very well-trained professionals, to anyone whose needs and expectations fall short of a full-scale sanding, with all the attendant noise, gritty, dusty mess, and week long disruption. This was a very excellent value for money that yielded a very satisfying result."

Ms. Deb Rockwood - Floors

Hi Ken, Sorry it's taken me so long to reply! I've just sent a recommendation off to the Golden Gate Mother's Group. Let me know if you'd like a copy. We're very happy with our floors - they look great! David and his team did a great job and they were so nice. Thanks so much to you all - this was a very painless experience. Now if you could just come up with a product that repels dog hair and toddler dirt.

"Hi Mommas, We just had our hardwood floors re-done by NHance and they look so great! I heard about this company on the GGMG list serve a few months back so I wanted to say that we tried it and are very happy with the results. With an active toddler and a very big dog our floors were in dire need of help. We had a few places that were down to bare wood, a couple of nasty scratches and some patched areas where the stain didn't match but now the floor looks terrific. We considered going the whole sanding, staining route but after getting several quotes and being told we would have to be out of the house anywhere from 4 to 7 days we decided to try NHance. Thier process is one step removed from a total sanding and refinishing so it only took one day - they do some kind of wet scrub abrasive (no dust!) and then coat the floor with finish. We were allowed back on the floors (in socks) that night and the price was significantly lower than any other quote. I want to say thanks to the mom who first posted about this service! I love GGMG! Who knew it would be such a great resource for non-baby related info?! Also, everyone I met from the company was so nice - very courteous, very respectful, very friendly. It's always kind of weird to leave your home in the care of strangers but I felt totally comfortable with the guys from NHance.

Sally Taylor / Potrero Hill - Floors

Sorry for the delay in my recommendation, but I wanted to wait a few days to see how the finish settled. It looks better than ever and it is a joy to come in and see how lovely the floors look now. I would highly recommend the treatment to others with subflooring as their finish. Especially the matte finish. While there are still imperfections, nothing can be done about that, the color is glorious and looks very natural. Even the old oak tiles in the kitchen are greatly improved, giving me at least another five years before replacing them. I was careful to leave the rooms alone for three days, and I think it helped. I thank you all for an excellent, professional job and delightfully good service. Have anyone email me who wants a personal recommendation. Cheers, Sally

Edward Paulino / Contractor (Bernal Heights)

Thank you for a job well done, It was all I expected.

"I am happy, very happy and so is Julia and everyone else think the floors look great. They are old but they give the message that the people who live here cares for them. I look forward to do more business together."

Maria and Alex - Home Owners (Ocean Merced Ingleside Neighborhood)

We would just love to tell you that our floors never looked like new! We haven't even had them looked at before you came over and now everyone loves the way they look. It's like we had new floors put in!! Our kitchen cabinets also look like new and have never shined like they do today!!

Press Release

October 3, 2005

REVOLUTIONARY NEW WOOD RENEWAL SYSTEM NOW AVAILABLE IN SAN FRANCISCO.

San Francisco, CA -- For the first time ever, a revolutionary wood renewal system is now available in our great city. N-Hance, Revolutionary Wood Renewal has opened their first office at

262 Richland Ave
San Francisco, CA 94110
415 294 7795

Craig Donaldson, International CEO of N-Hance, predicts that their presence here will make a real difference to homeowners: “Prior to the development of N-Hance, people who wanted beautiful wood would have to refinish their floors and cabinets by sanding them down and basically starting over. The process takes days and costs a small fortune, but the dust, smell and mess lasts for weeks. Now with N-Hance Revolutionary Wood Renewal system, your wood floors or cabinets can be renewed in just a day without any of those negatives… and it costs just a small fraction of the old refinishing process.”

The local N-Hance operation is owned by Ken and Kellie McCord, who explain, “As soon as we saw it work, we knew that we needed it here in San Francisco." It beautifully renews wood in just a day without the mess and at a fraction of the cost. We know it sounds too good to be true but we guarantee each customer complete satisfaction or we’ll give their money back.”

Introduced first in Seattle, N-Hance has revolutionized wood renewal in the other parts of the country. Laurie Balls of Salt Lake City had previous experience using the old method of sanding and refinishing. She said, “Sanding was just awful, there was dust everywhere; we had to cover everything with plastic. We had to stay at a hotel for 2 days we couldn’t go in the house at all. It was very intrusive.” In contrast, Laurie had this comment about her experience with new N-Hance: “N-Hance was wonderful! 50% of our floor was hard wood and we have a lot of traffic with six kids and the N-Hance refinishing lasted longer than when we had them sanded. Under my sink the wood was damaged from all the water and they restored it to look like new again.”

Homeowners who are interested in learning more about N-Hance Revolutionary Wood Renewal are encouraged to call NHance at 415 294 7795. Our challenge...350 square feet of beautiful wood that has sat unfinished and untouched for over 10 years. The floors were in structurally solid shape but covered in layers of dirt, oils and whatever else walks in on the soles of shoes and falls off the dinner table.

We spread the job out over 2 days and invited some 15 different friends...amongst them property managers, realtors and others interested in seeing first hand a system that promises no dust, no odor, no mess in less than 24 hours! The contractor is in a pinch. His commitment is for Sunday October 30th, 2005. The job is not complete but he must deliver the property for move in. The floors are a wreck. Normally he would pay a screener to come in and work over a 2 or 3 day period since the property is already a mess. Dust is not an issue, but today he needs fast! While many of these floors are beyond the scope of our niche we took a shot at it. With our wet abrasive scrub and NO SANDING, we put our product and process to the test. After pulling close to 100 carpet nails and staples, filling 100s of holes and cracks and working on some minor repairs we delivered the floor the next morning for move in.

Check out these before and after pics.

Stairs

In a home or business, your stairs are the most heavily impacted floors.
